West Virginia University professors Michael Mays and Laura Pyzdrowski were recently honored by the West Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Professor Mays received the Distinguished Service Awardthe highest award granted by the Council. Mays, a native of Charles Town, was recognized for his involvement in the state’s mathematics community and recently as president of the West Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Dr. Pyzdrowski, assistant professor and pre-collegiate mathematics coordinator, was named the 2004 College Mathematics Teacher of the Year. She has been an active member of Project MERIT , the Blue Ribbon Committee, WvEB Algebra and Project Impact.

The Department of Mathematics offers a bachelor of arts in mathematics and a bachelor of science in mathematics or industrial mathematics and statistics.
