The West Virginia University P.I. Reed School of Journalism has chosen Archie Sader as the 2003-04 Teacher of the Year and Mary Rodd Furbee as the 2003-04 Adjunct of the Year.

Each year the school’s awards committee chooses the recipients for teacher and adjunct of the year based on peer review and student input.

Archie Sader joined the P.I. Reed School of Journalism as an assistant professor of advertising in August 2001. During summer 2003, he assumed the additional

responsibilities of serving as director of the graduate program in Integrated Marketing Communications as well as head of the undergraduate advertising sequence.

Through Sader’s hard work, the school was able to launch the first online Integrated Marketing Communications master’s degree program in the nation in fall 2003. Designed specifically for working professionals, the program allows them to earn academic credit and build innovative communication skills €completely online.

“Archie Sader has done outstanding work in making our newly launched Integrated Marketing Communications master’s degree a success. He’s a dedicated teacher, a productive faculty member and a true inspiration to all of us at the School of Journalism,”said Acting Dean Maryanne Reed, who also serves on the school’s awards committee.

Prior to his professorship, Sader served as president of Sader&Associates Inc., an independent Madison Avenue advertising agency. The firm was a member of The American Association of Advertising Agencies and The Direct Marketing Association. Clients included: Business Week, National Football League Properties and Standard&Poor’s. Prior to launching Sader&Associates Inc., he was a Partner of Tatham-Laird&Kudner, a division of Euro RSCG .

In addition to his administrative work, Professor Sader teaches graduate level courses in the Integrated Marketing Communications program and undergraduate courses in direct marketing, media planning and campaigns. He was named as a member of the IMC Symposium, an international forum of scholars and professionals in the field of Integrated Marketing Communications.

In March 2004, the Symposium published”A White Paper on the Status, Scope and Future of IMC .”Sader was a contributing author to the publication. He earned an MBA in marketing from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business and an A.B. in economics from The University of Michigan.

When advised that he was selected Teacher of the Year, Sader mentioned that he was so pleased and honored.

“The greatest accomplishment in academia is to be recognized by one’s students and peers. To be identified as the Teacher of the Year by such an esteemed faculty as that at the P.I. Reed School of Journalism is a source of great satisfaction and is totally unexpected,”he said.”I hope to continue to make contributions to the development of the new IMC discipline and to the growth of the program at WVU .”
