The West Virginia University Department of Philosophy will sponsor a lecture by 2004 Outstanding Guest Philosopher John M. Fischer Wednesday, April 14, from 7:30-9 p.m. in Room G-15 of the Life Sciences Building.
The presentation, entitledFree Will and Self-Expression, is free and open to the public.
Dr. Fischer is a professor of philosophy and director of the honors program at the University of California, Riverside. He earned his Ph.D. in philosophy from Cornell University in 1982. His research interest focuses on metaphysics and philosophy of religion.
Fischer has also written and edited several well-known books. His most recent book isResponsibility and Control: A Theory of Moral Responsibility,which was co-authored by Mark Ravizza.
The Department of Philosophy, housed in WVU ’s Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, offers a bachelor of arts degree, a pre-law area of emphasis in philosophy, and a minor to students interested in the field.
