Sex in the City: Prostitution in 19 th Century Hamburgwill be the topic of a colloquium held by West Virginia University’s Department of History and Center for Women’s Studies at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 31, in Woodburn Hall 101.

Julia Bruggemann, assistant professor of history at DePauw University, will explore the ambivalent nature of prostitution and the state’s attempt to control and regulate it, as well as the central role prostitution played in the social construction of 19 th century gender boundaries.
