An acclaimed author from India will read from his works at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, in the Greenbrier Room of the West Virginia University Mountainlair.

Siddhartha Deb is the author ofThe Point of Return,a novel set in northeastern India where he grew up.

What I wanted to do is use my memories of the town I grew up in as a template for some large questions of identity, belonging and nationhood,Deb has said of the book.

The novel has received critical acclaim from award-winning author Amit Chaudhuri and Kalpish Ratna, the pen name for two columnists whose work appears in numerous publications around the world.

Deb has worked as a journalist in Calcutta and Delhi and has written for Lingua Franca, the London Review of Books, New Statesman and The Guardian. He came to New York in 1998 on a Columbia University literature fellowship and now resides in the United States.

A book signing will follow the reading, which is free and open to the public.
