Friends and colleagues are invited to a public memorial service for the late Joe Gluck, longtime West Virginia University Student Affairs administrator, at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 28, at the Creative Arts Center Concert Theatre.
Gluck, a native of Ritchie County, started working for WVU in 1933 as a youth counselor at Jackson’s Mill. He arrived on the main campus in 1946 as veterans’coordinator and later served as vice president for student affairs, dean of students and finally special counselor to studentsa part-time position he held up until his death on Feb. 18 at the age of 89.
Gluck was an active cleric in the American Baptist Churches, including 28 years at Forks-of-Cheat Baptist Church near Morgantown. He also served as a chaplain in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his three children, Susannah Glomb of Arlington, Va., Jody Crosland of Miami, Fla., and Christopher Gluck of Morgantown, their spouses and children.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret.
During the Sunday service, the Rev. Dr. Truett Rogers, former minister at the First Baptist Church in Morgantown and Alderson-Broaddus College, will speak along with WVU President David C. Hardesty Jr.one of 11 presidents Gluck worked for during his nearly 70 years at WVU .
