The World Music Center in the WVU College of Creative Arts will present its second annual Steel Drum Concert Thursday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre.

This is the second concert devoted exclusively to steel pans and will be presented by the WVU Steel Drum Ensembles. The concert is directed by Shawn Roberts, who is a graduate assistant in percussion at WVU and director of the WVU Steel Band.

Also performing will be the Westwood Middle School Panhandlers, directed by Chip Buck, and the Washington High School Steel Band, directed by Marc Svaline.

The program will feature Westwood Middle School inGroove Machineby Chris Tanner, andMercy, Mercy, Mercy,by Josef Zawinul.

Washington High School will performAnother Orange Afternoonby Tom Miller;Bilero,featuring vocalist Rachael Horne;Colman’s Jam,by Jit Samaroo;The Prayer,arranged by Svaline;Oye como va,by Tito Puente, and featuring Ben Leone on tenor saxophone and vocals by Horne and Aaron Faulk; andOur Song,by Svaline, also featuring vocals by Funk and Horne.

Following Intermission, the WVU Steel Band, under the direction of Roberts and Assistant Director Jim Morford, will performJoe’s Melody Boys,by Tom Miller;Ave Maria,by Josquin Desprez;Plenty Lovin’,by Ray Holman;Samba Insalada,by Miller;Central Park West,by John Coltrane; andPan Rising,by LenBoogsieSharpe.

Members of the WVU Steel Band include: Cassie Kelly, Matt Ratai, Keith Moone, Corey MacCormick, Kyle Atkins, Robert Alonso, Jimthe animalMorford, Sarah Leslie, John Meriwether, Ian MacMichael, Missy Hance, Brandon Lambert, Victor Guthrie, Kat Clift, E.J. Oesterle, Eric Fountain, Meredith Lentz, David Lawson, Samantha Bartlow, Adam Osmianski, Kevin Shon, and Andy Wilmoth.
