Presidential hopefuls John Kerry and John Edwards are not the only ones who will be stumping for votes andpressing the fleshover the next couple of months. The election season for the Student Government Association (SGA) officially kicks off Monday (Jan. 26) at West Virginia University.

A total of 19 student leadership positions, including president and vice president, are up for grabs. Those interested in running may pick up election forms from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday in the Mountainlair lobby.

Packets will also be available in the Student Organization Wing of theLair. All forms must be completed and returned to Student Organization Services by Monday, Feb. 9.

Student campaigning will then begin Feb. 14 and continue through Feb. 23 with online voting taking place Feb. 24-26 through students MIX accounts.

Last year, approximately 3,200 students cast an e-ballot, according to Elections Chairperson Blaire Nuzum. This year, she expects greater voter turnout and issues such as budget cuts to take center stage.

To be considered for the student Board of Governors, candidates must have at least a 2.0 overall G.P.A and 600 petition signatures. Candidates for president and vice president are required to have 1,200 signatures.
