Following a national search, Kaye Caplinger Widney has been named director of financial aid and scholarships at West Virginia University.

Widney has more than 20 years of experience in college financial aid administration and earned the M.A. in educational leadership studies from WVU .

She began her professional career in financial aid at LaSalle University in Philadelphia, and became a member of the financial aid staff at Fairmont State College in 1991. She has been the director of financial aid and scholarships there since 1999, and also served as the project manager for the implementation of the SCT /Banner software system on the FSC campus. Additionally, Widney has extensive experience in national and regional financial aid professional organizations.”I am very pleased that someone with Kaye’s financial aid experience and leadership skills will be taking on the director’s position for the Financial Aid Office,”said Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management Brenda Thompson.”With rising educational costs and a tough economic climate, this position plays an increasingly prominent role in assisting students at West Virginia University achieve their academic goals.”

As the director, Widney will provide leadership in the administration of over $164 million annually in student aid funds. She will also be responsible for overseeing the implementation of aid policies and working closely with other University departments to facilitate timely and efficient processing of financial aid and scholarships. The Financial Aid Office is a part of the Enrollment Management and Services unit within the Division of Student Affairs.

Widney will begin her new position at WVU on Jan. 5, 2004.
