Enjoy a candlelit walk through the grounds of a treasured West Virginia landmark, savor a delicious holiday meal or discover how the holidays were celebrated in earlier times during the annual”Winter Lights”celebration Friday and Saturday, Dec. 12-13, at WVU Jackson’s Mill, near Weston.

The facility’s grounds have already been decorated with wreaths and swags of ribbon and fresh greenery made by Jackson’s Mill staff members. On Dec. 12 and 13, more than 1,000 luminaries will be lit from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Visitors are invited to drive or stroll through the grounds and enjoy the evening. Horse-drawn carriage rides will be available for a nominal charge.

The General’s Store, a gift shop in the Historic Area, will be open both evenings from 5-9 p.m. for holiday shopping.

The traditional Winter Lights Buffet will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday in Mount Vernon Dining Hall. The menu will include baked steak and roast turkey with all the trimmings. Admission is $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 4 to 12. Reservations are suggested and can be made by calling 1-800-287-8206.

On Saturday,”An Old-Fashioned Christmas”will come to the Mill. While geared primarily for children ages 4 to 12, people of all ages will enjoy learning how the holidays were celebrated in the 19th century and meeting a special guest. The program will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Mountain State Building; admission is free.
