Tired, congested and achy all over? Chances areyou’ve caught the bug biting West Virginia University students and employees.

With more sniffles going around campus, University Health Services (UHS) is treating between 40-50 students with colds or the flu every day.

“We have been seeing a lot of students with upper respiratory infections and Influenza A,” UHS Director Jan Palmer said.”We have documented several cases of influenza and so has the emergency department.”

If students think they have the flu and are experiencing these symptomscoughing, fever, chills and body achescall 304-293-2311 and ask to speak with a nurse. UHS will be able to tell students if they have a condition that requires treatment (in some cases, IV hydration), or if bed rest and fluids are all they need to get better.

If students have not received a flu shot and would like one, it is not too late to get one. Remember, the flu shot provides the best protection throughout the flu season. Sometimes a person who receives the vaccine can get the flu, but it will frequently be milder than without the vaccine.

UHS offers WVU students flu shots for $10. To schedule an appointment, call 304-293-2311.
