The West Virginia University History Club and Phi Alpha Theta will conclude the”Don’t Know Much About History Series”with guest lecturer Wendy Singer of Kenyon College.

The lecture will be held Monday, Nov. 17, at 6 p.m. in 211 Woodburn Hall and will focus on South East Asia. Dr. Singer will discuss her research findings during the lecture, which is entitled”The Dalai Lama and Tibetan Government in Exile: A Stateless Democracy.”

Singer is a professor of south Asian history and director of International Studies at Kenyon College. While teaching at Kenyon College, Singer is committed to teaching students to incorporate oral history into their research projects and administers several workshops on oral history. This year, Singer is Visiting By-Fellow at Cambridge University, and she has recently returned from conducting fieldwork research among Tibetans in India.

Singer is a widely published author and her forthcoming book, entitled A Constituency Suitable for Ladies, is scheduled to be released in 2004. This publication is a history of women in India’s elections. Her most recent publication, an essay based on her interview with the Dalai Lama, was published in the Summer/Fall 2003 issue of Kenyon Review.

The Phi Alpha Theta WVU History Club sponsors the”Don’t Know Much About History Series.”This series is centered on history’s role in current events and focuses on geographic areas not normally covered in high school and introductory college history courses. The lecture is free and open to the public.
