West Virginia University’s Air Force ROTC will pay tribute to those American men and women who have served and, in many cases, died for their country while serving in the armed forces during a Veterans Day POW /MIA vigil tomorrow (Nov. 11).
The vigil will begin at 11 a.m. on the Mountainlair Plaza and last 24 hours. A cage simulating the horrors POWs face will be constructed and Air Force ROTC cadets will take turns sitting in the cage while a guard stands watch outside.
The public is invited to attend, as well as participate in a candlelight vigil in front of the Mountainlair tomorrow at 9 p.m. The service will conclude at 11 a.m. Wednesday with a color guard and 21-gun salute performed by Air Force and Army ROTC cadets.
“The service is important because at some point in time, many of us will be serving in combat. Many people before us and many people after us will be captured,”Dennis Napier, an ROTC cadet, said.”It’s not just about wearing a uniformthis is about giving the ultimate sacrifice.”
