WVU violinist Laura Kobayashi and guest pianist Susan Keith Gray of the University of South Dakota, will present a recital at the Creative Arts Center, Sunday, Nov. 9.
The program begins at 5 p.m. in the Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (Room 200A) and is free and open to the public. It will include Violin Sonata No. 10 in G Major, Op. 96 by Ludwig van Beethoven; Violin Sonata No. 1 (1994) by Elisenda Fabregas, a contemporary composer from Spain who now lives in Texas; Barcarolle for Violin and Piano by Signe Lund, a late 19th century Norwegian composer; and Violin Sonata No. 1 in A Minor, Op. 105 by Robert Schumann.
Drs. Kobayashi and Gray have been performing as a duo for many years, and one of their specialties is the music of women composers of the mid-19th through the 20th century. In 1993 the duo toured South America and the West Indies as USIA Artistic Ambassadors and in 1995 they received second prize in the Contemporary Record Societys National Competition for Performing Artists. They frequently tour throughout the United States performing standard works as well as compositions by women composers.
The duo recently completed a compact disc recording,Boldly Expressive: Music by Women,on the Albany Records label.
