West Virginia Universitys Community Theatre Program is still registering students, ages 5-14, for fall and spring classes at the Creative Arts Center.

According to Margaret McKowen, chair of the Division of Theatre and Dance, the program has openings inActing/Voice and Movement(ages 9-14),Theatre Games for Budding Young Artists(ages 5-7) andThe Tempest(ages 9-14).

InThe Tempeststudents will be involved in a fully mounted production of ShakespearesThe Tempest,to be presented to family and friends. The young cast will enjoy acting out shipwrecks and wizardry, as well as monsters and other wonderful characters with sets and costumes. Costumes will be created for each character that the students will take them home with them after the show. There will also be a full slate of period-study workshops.

Acting/Voice and Movement for Young Artiststrains up-and-coming actors in improvisational exercises and training to help students develop confidence as well as performance and presentation skills. The class will culminate in a mini performance demonstrating the skills learned.

Theatre Games for the Young Artistinvolves young children in theatre activities that enhance collaborative, communication and performance skills through acting, voice, improvisation and puppetry. The class will culminate in an event of group activities with family and friends led by the young artists.

Fall classes begin Nov. 1 and will be held each Saturday during the month of November. Spring classes begin Jan. 24 and will be held each Saturday through Feb. 28. Costs vary, depending on the class.
