WVU music professor Curtis Johnson will present a recital of saxophone music at the Creative Arts Center, Tuesday, Oct. 28.
The program begins at 6 p.m. in the Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (Room 200A) and is free and open to the public.
This recital will encompass the last 50 years of the saxophone, with elements of traditional and modern performance styles,Johnson said.Guest performers include Dr. James Miltenberger on piano, The Traverser Saxophone Quartet, and WVU jazz students. Composers represented will be Paul Hindemith, WVU music alumnus Dr. Scott Green, and Cole Porter.
The program features:Vindellia stonkie Tu-bongby Green;Konzerstuckfur Zwei Altsaxophone by Hindemith; Concertino by Warren Benson; Saxsounds III (Diminishing Returns) by Steven Galente, for two saxophones and digital delay; Saxsounds I by Galente, for saxophone quartet; andEasy to Loveby Porter.
Johnson received his master of music degree from WVU and his bachelors degree from West Liberty State College. He has extensive performance experience with such famed artists as Frankie Valli, Wynton Marsalis, Ray Charles and Maynard Ferguson. He is a much-in-demand performer, arranger and conductor, in addition to working on numerous recording and touring projects with national acts.
