The WVU Choral Area, including The Choral Union, The Womens Choir and The University Choir will presentAutumn Serenade,an eclectic concert of choral music, Sunday, Oct. 26, at 3:15 p.m. in the Eiesland Hall Auditorium on the downtown campus. Special guest will be the WVU Collegium Musicum Orchestra.
The highlight of the concert will be the Morgantown premiere ofIn Sideribus Domi: At Home In the Starsby Grammy-winning composer Paul Halley. Composed on commission for the gala opening season of The Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences in Charleston, this energetic piece celebrates the triumphs of humanity as displayed through the arts and sciences. The Choral Union, conducted by Roger table width=100%r, will perform excerpts of this work.
There will also be choral music by contemporary American composers Moses Hogan, Morten Lauridson and Jester Hairston by The Womens Choir, conducted by Jennifer Vanderholm, and The University Choir, conducted by Kathleen Shannon, who also directs the WVU Choral Program.
Other featured composers include John Rutter, Javier Busto, Sergei Rachmaninov, Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms.
Rounding out the program will be a performance of”Cantata 113: Herr Jesu Christ, du hochstes Gut,”by J.S. Bach. Written in 1724, this intensely dramatic work features the rare and haunting sound of the oboe damore. WVU voice students Krista Kiefski, Rebecca Mullins, Robert Strauss and Curt Scheib will serve as soloists with The University Choir and Collegium Musicum Orchestra, conducted by Andrew Kohn.
