The Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, in association with the Office of International Programs, the Department of Geology and Geography and the Fulbright Scholar Program, will be hosting an evening of lectures Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m. at Erickson Alumni Center.

The lectures will focus on religion and society in Central and Eastern Europe and will feature Pter Trk and Andrs Mt-Tth, from the University of Szeged, Hungary, and Robert Blobaum from West Virginia University.

The event is free and open to the public.

Pter Trk’s lecture is titled”Mapping the Influence of Religion During the Transition to Post Communism: A Critique of Gauteir’s Model.”Dr. Trk completed his doctorate in sociology at the University Toronto in 1993. He is currently an associate professor of religious studies at the University of Szeged.

Andrs Mt-Tth’s lecture will be on”The Role of Religion in the new European Union.”In 1991, Dr. Mt-Tth received his Ph.D. in theology from the University of Vienna. He is currently the founder and chair of the Department for the Study of Religions at the University of Szeged.

Dr. Blobaum is Eberly Family Professor of History at WVU . He is the author of many publications, his most recent being Rewolucja: Russian Poland, 1904-1907, which earned him the Oskar Halecki Polish and East Central European History Award.
