Morgantown-based author and West Virginia University journalism instructor Mary Rodd Furbee will be a featured author at the West Virginia Book Festival Oct. 11-12 at the Charleston Civic Center.

Furbee’s most recent books include the paperbacks Outrageous Women of Civil War Times and Shawnee Captive: The Story of Mary Draper Ingles.

Along with a panel of children’s book authors, Furbee will discuss her work at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. She also will host a”Hands-On Women’s History Booth”filled with period costumes, props, games and toys and do periodic storytelling about remarkable women in history.

The West Virginia Book Festival runs from 9 a.m. 6 p.m. is presented by the Library Foundation of Kanawha County, the West Virginia Humanities Council, The Charleston Gazette and Charleston Daily Mail to promote awareness of the importance of reading and books and to introduce the public to the wide variety of authors in this region. This program is presented with financial assistance from the West Virginia Division of Culture and History and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts.
