The West Virginia University College of Human Resources&Education is seeking nominations for two newly established awardsthe Hall of Fame and Distinguished Alumnus Awards.

p.

These awards were developed to honor graduates and other individuals who have distinguished themselves in their chosen fields and/or contributed in a significant way to the vision and mission of the College, said Carolyn Atkins, chair of the HR&E Awards Selection Committee.

Hall of Fame nominees are not required to be graduates of the College of Human Resources&Education or of WVU . Hall of Fame Awards are presented each year to up to five outstanding alumni and other individuals who have records of consistent advancement and increased responsibility in their chosen professions.

Nominees for the Distinguished Alumnus Award will be limited to graduates of the College. To be selected for the Distinguished Alumnus Award, the recipient must have earned at least one degree from the College of Human Resources&Education and must have earned his/her most recent WVU degree at least five years prior to the time of nomination.

Only one Distinguished Alumnus Award is presented each year to a graduate of the College who has distinguished himself/herself in his/her chosen field, discipline, position, and/or occupation through development of new programs, procedures, designs, models, teaching, writing, research, demonstrations, service, and/or management skills. The nominee may have been recognized by immediate professional associates; by state, national or international associates; or by several professional peer groups and/or individuals.

The HR&E Visiting Committee, which first began talking about expanding ways to honor graduates last year, developed a process of nomination and selection,Dr. Atkins said.

We believe that a strong pool of outstanding candidates for these awards is critically important, especially as we begin this process, she continued. Therefore, we are asking anyone aware of deserving individuals to please consider nominating them for one or both of these awards.

In order for a person to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, if living, she/he must be present at the recognition ceremony. Nominees for the Alumnus Award must be living at the time of nomination; it is anticipated that they will also attend the recognition ceremony.

Current WVU faculty and administrators, as well as current members of the HR&E Visiting Committee, are not eligible for the awards,Atkins added. However, both residents and non-residents of the state may receive the awards, and recognition is not contingent on a persons giving record or potential for giving.

Nominations are due by Nov. 1 (Homecoming Weekend). Alumni, faculty and staff members and other friends of the College may submit a nomination.

The nomination should include the name and contact information of the nominee and of the person submitting the nomination and a nominators statement of not more than two pages explaining why the nominee should be selected. Appropriate supporting material may be submitted but should be confined to a 1013 envelope.

If you would like additional information about these awards or would like to request a nomination cover sheet, contact HREadmn@mail.wvu.edu or call 304-293-5703. The first recipients of the awards will be announced next spring.
