WVU schedules 3 drives

June 23rd, 2003

While a blood shortage causes concern no matter what time of year it occurs, as national holidays approach low supplies become even more crucial. American Red Cross officials are urging donors to help replenish blood supplies in preparation for the upcoming summer months especially with the Fourth of July approaching.

The regions supply of four of eight blood types are below a day-and-a-half supply, with barely enough O Negative, the universal blood type, to cover one days blood needs.

Because of the ongoing need for blood, it is important for everyone to become a regular donor. Blood may be donated every 56 days. For more information about blood donation, visit/www.redcross.orgor call the American Red Cross, Greater Alleghenies Region, at 1-800-542-5663.
