A workshop to help small businesses with research grant requests will be held Wednesday, June 25, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the National Research Center for Coal and Energy on West Virginia Universitys Evansdale Campus.
p. The session will explore opportunities in the Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs. The goals of the workshop are to help individuals and small companies identify likely research topics and to increase the number of successful proposals coming out of West Virginia. These programs support research and development that lead to commercialization of new technologies and processes for small businesses (one to 500 employees).

Ten federal agencies, including the Energy, Agriculture, Defense, Transportation and Commerce departments and National Science Foundation, are involved in the programs. Research and technology transfer grants have two phases: Phase I grants of up to $100,000 for six- to nine-month feasibility studies can lead to Phase II grants of up to $1 million for two-year prototype development projects. The West Virginia Small Business Development Center offers”Phase 0”incentive grants of $5,000 for teams to prepare proposals.

Sponsors for the workshop include WVU , MacLennan Research, Fairmont State Regional Small Business Development Center, West Virginia Small Business Development Center and Industries of the Future-West Virginia.
