Paying student accounts at West Virginia University is now just a mouse click away for students and parents.

Part of WVU ’s STAR Web enhancement, the payment feature allows students or their parents to enter a secure Web site to make either a credit card payment or an electronic check payment out of a checking or savings account.

Michael Beto, assistant director, Office of Student Accounts for Research and Tax Accounting, said the system is easy to use and has been operational since Jan. 1.

“It’s been going quite well,”he said.”It’s easy, it’s convenient and students don’t have to wait in line or on the phone to talk to someone, unless they have a problem.”

In the past, the two options for paying student accounts were the STAR Telephone IVR System and mailing payments to the lockbox in Charleston. Beto says the addition of the online system expedites the process not only for students, but also for WVU employees.

Online payments can be made for any charges appearing on a student’s account, such as tuition and fees, room and board, library fines, University Health Services co-payments, transcript fees and judicial fines.

Student account representatives are still available to answer questions by phone at 293-4006 and by e-mail at bursar@mail.wvu.edu .

Beto said information about the online payment system will be distributed to new students and their parents during WVU ’s upcoming student orientation sessions this summer.

To pay online, students can go tohttp://www.mix.wvu.eduand then choose the STAR Information Tab and follow the instructions.
