WVU online election nears;

February 19th, 2003


Charlie Battleson and Jordan Workman are still working hard to get the word out about their campaign platform, despite the fact that they are the lone candidates for the 2003 Student Government Association presidency and vice presidency at West VirginiaUniversity.


Battleson, a senior aerospace and mechanical engineering major from Buffalo, N.Y., has been involved in campus life throughout his student career as a resident assistant, a member of the Mortar Board National Honorary, a member of the Resident Assistant Council, Campus Publications Board, Sigma Gamma Tau National Honorary of aerospace engineers and the WVU /NASA Microgravity Research: NASA Reduced Gravity Student Flight Opportunities Program. He currently serves as the SGA chief of staff.


Workman is a junior double majoring in political science and economics. He is originally from Madison. During his time at WVU , Jordan has been involved as a member of the Board of Governors, Phi Sigma Kappa, Associate Member Chairman of IFC , Social Justice Committee chairman, former member of the WVU crew team and Mountaineer Maniacs.


“We are extremely excited to continue the work of this years SGA administration, and we also plan to investigate many issues while in office,”Battleson and Workman said of their campaign.


Battleson and Workman plan to improve parking by keeping evening parking free, and by making sure any additional parking added will go first to students. They also feel that its important that students are represented in decisions involving parking. They also plan to focus on making the Mountainlair a more student-centered student union. WVUp All Night will also be a focus of the administration, if elected, by making the programming more appealing to students.


The candidates also plan on improving the availability of campus jobs, student involvement in SGA , the withdrawal policy, library hours, Health Services, Disability Services, the Student Help Line, Student Organization Funding and SGA scholarships opportunities.
