Dr. Timothy S. Hall has been appointed surgical director of the West Virginia University Heart Institute.

Dr. Hall comes to WVU from the University of California at San Francisco, where he was director of cardiothoracic transplantation. The UCSF program includes heart, lung and heart-lung transplantation, and Hall is an accomplished surgeon and researcher.

WVU ’s heart surgery program includes operating teams at both WVUHospitals and Monongalia GeneralHospital, and is planning to extend services to Clarksburg and Parkersburg under the supervision of the WVU Heart Institute.

“Dr. Hall is an excellent surgeon, and he’s an excellent match for the needs of the University and the state,”said Dr. Robert D’Alessandri, vice president for health sciences and dean of the School of Medicine at WVU .”We believe that his recruitment to West Virginia is a vote of confidence in our medical community, in our hospitals and in the University, and we are proud to add him to the faculty.”

Hall is a graduate of the Temple University School of Medicine, with advanced training at Johns Hopkins and the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Institute. He has served on the UCSF faculty since 1996.

He was designated the primary surgeon for the UCSF lung, heart, and heart-lung transplant program by the United Network for Organ Sharing. He also led a research team that has been investigating the inflammatory changes in donated lungs after the donor’s brain death.
