The WVU Council for Womens Concerns seeks nominations for the 2002-03 Mary Catherine Buswell Award. WVU employees, students, regional campus personnel and citizens of West Virginia, including both men and women, are eligible for nomination.


Award recipients are chosen for excellence in their field as it relates to the advancement of WVU women, community and civic activities that serve and advance women, or significant pioneering activities that improve the status of women.


The award will be presented at the Annual Honors Weekend Convocation on Friday, April 11, in the Mountainlair Ballrooms. The award winner will receive $500 for travel, supplies, salary supplement or any other use commensurate with WVU policies.


The Mary Catherine Buswell Award, established in 1978, recognizes a living person who has provided outstanding service, above and beyond the individuals regular assignment, to significantly further equality of opportunity for and achievement of women.


The award is named for the first recipient, the late Mary Catherine Buswell, professor emerita of English (1947-1978) and dedicated proponent of equal opportunities for women.
