Two videos produced by West Virginia University Television Productions, a unit within the Office of Institutional Advancement, were recognized for outstanding work in the communications field by The Communicator Awards 2002 Video Competition.
Murphy Tinsley, a producer-director at WVU Television Productions, received a Crystal Award of Excellence for the production of a 30-second institutional commercial titled”Bronze Mountaineer.”The television message features an artistic camera move around the Mountaineer statue while on-screen text reveals positive bullet-points that describe reasons to attend WVU . The message ends with a tongue-in-cheek exclamation that WVU also has”a really cool 11-foot tall bronze Mountaineer.”
Matt Striner, another producer-director at WVU Television Productions, received an Award of Distinction for his production of a recruiting videotape for the Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences. The recruitment video was produced in the creative style of the popular”Sports Century”series which airs on ESPN Classic. Striner employed creative lighting techniques and stylistically photographed images to promote WVU to potential students.
The Communicator Awards is an international awards competition that recognizes outstanding work in the communications field. Entries are judged by industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry. There were 3,242 entries from 48 states, the District of Columbia and nine other countries in The Communicator Awards 2002 Video Competition.
