The West Virginia University Alumni Association is preparing to welcome more than 2,500 alumni, fans and prospective students to the 2003 Capital Classic Pre-Game Reception Wednesday, Jan. 22.
The event, held in conjunction with the annual WVU vs. Marshall mens and womens basketball games, is set for 6:15- 8:15 p.m. at the Charleston Civic Center North Hall. The reception features interactive displays from various academic units on the main campus in Morgantown as well as WVU s regional campuses in Montgomery, Keyser and Parkersburg, along with live music, and free hors doeuvres.
The Office of Admissions and Records will again be reviewing student applications on site, offering acceptance letters to admitted students. A high school transcript, ACT or SAT score and $25 application fee are required.
Guests will also receive a variety of giveaways and an opportunity to win a number of door prizes. Those who enter the WVU Foundation drawing could win tickets to WVU football and basketball games.
“This event has really taken on a life of its own,”explained Stephen Douglas, chief executive officer of the WVU Alumni Association.”Each year it grows in popularity because people enjoy coming out and to see their university set up shop in Charleston. Plus, you can always expect to see a good game.”
The Lady Mountaineers will hit the hardwoods at 5:30 p.m.; the mens game follows at 8 p.m. Tickets are available through the WVU ticket office at 1-800-WVU-GAME or at the CharlestonCivicCenter box office at 345-1500.
TThe Alumni Association will also also be hosting the annual WVU Capital Classic Luncheon at 11:45 a.m. that day at the Charleston Embassy Suites Hotel. WVU President David C. Hardesty Jr. is the keynote speaker, and the mens and womens basketball teams are scheduled to make guest appearances. Both Coach John Beilein and Coach Mike Cary will share brief remarks as well.
More than 650 are expected to attend this reservation-only gathering.
