Students in West VirginiaUniversitys College of Business and Economics are giving money away again this year. They are looking for nonprofit agencies in Monongalia, Preston and Taylor counties to receive shares in $25,000.
The students are taking a management class called the Corporate Citizen Project, in which they learn by struggling with decisions that have real consequences in their community �€and by giving away $25,000 to help organizations that provide service to humans or animals.
The deadline to apply is Wednesday, Nov. 20. Information on how to apply for the grants is available at the College of Business and Economics Web site atwww.be.wvu.eduor by calling 293-7932.
Last year the class solicited proposals for projects that would benefit the greater Morgantown community, developed a set of criteria for judging them and then chose the winners from among more than 20 proposals.
The winners were: Chaplin Hill, $7,400 to support the development of a sports complex specifically designed for mentally and/or physically challenged individuals; Mountaineer Area Rescue Council, $3,300 to purchase equipment needed for the rescue of people lost or missing in the woods; WV Dispute Resolution Center, $5,000 to support a mediation project designed to resolve tenant/landlord disputes for WVU students; Humane Society, $5,000 to help fund the spaying/neutering of cats for low-income families/individuals; Boys and Girls Club, $3,100 to fund a career exploration program for students ages 10-14; In Touch and Concerned, $1,200 to purchase a computer, software and office equipment to support the efforts of this agency to serve the areas senior citizens.
