The WVU Laureate Wind Quintet will present its first concert of the semester Monday, Nov. 4, at 8:15 p.m. in the Falbo Theatre of the Creative Arts Center. The concert is free, and the public is cordially invited to attend.


Featured in the program will be faculty members: Joyce Catalfano, flute; Cynthia Anderson, oboe; John Weigand, clarinet; Virginia Thompson, harp; and new faculty member Peter Kolkay, bassoon.


The Quintet will perform Anton Reichas”Quintetto in G Major,”Lalo Schifrins”La Nouvelle Orleans,”and David Maslankas”Quintet for Winds, No. 3.”


Kolkay is from Naperville, Ill., and received his bachelors degree in music from LawrenceUniversity in 1998, a masters degrees from the Eastman School of Music in 2000 and YaleUniversity in 2002. He recently won first prize at the 2002 Concert Artists Guild (CAG) International Competition, becoming the first solo bassoonist to receive first prize in the 51-year history of the Competition. Kolkay is an avid performer of contemporary music and a member of the Harriburg Symphony. Upcoming performances include his New York recital debut at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. His performances have been broadcast on National Public Radios”Performance Today”and on New Yorks WQXR -FM. His is a founding member of Trio Encantar, an oboe/bassoon/piano ensemble.
