Ruth Kershner, clinical assistant professor of community medicine at West VirginiaUniversity, will present”Women as Perpetrators of Violence”at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, in the John Jones Dining Room B, Health Sciences South.


The presentation, the final in a series of Fireside Chats, will focus on the increase in womens violence, types of violent acts committed by women and social pathologies that contribute to violence in women.


Kershner has been affiliated with the Community Health Promotion Division since 1991. She is a registered nurse, West Virginia certified in school health, and is nationally credentialed as a health education specialist.


Kershner is interested in substance abuse education, violence prevention, rape prevention education, women’s health, nursing care of the elderly and hospice. She has presented at state, national, and international conferences about her research area �€rape prevention.


She is a visiting assistant professor in the School of Physical Education and also serves as a faculty associate in the Center for Women’s Studies. Recent awards include Distinquished Teacher in the School of Medicine and West Virginia Health Educator of the Year.
