West Virginia University students will wash down a lot of information about alcohol this week as educators and health officials talk about the issue with students during National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week, Oct. 21-26.


WVU Alcohol and Drug Specialists Missy Pforr and Tami Allen along with several peer health educators will be available throughout the week to distribute literature and answer questions about alcohol and alcohol-related issues such as binge drinking, alcohol poisoning, consequences of DUI s, the Student Assistance Program (SAP), risky behaviorsand just as important, alternatives to drinking.


Information booths will be set up in the Mountainlair Commons from 10 a.m.�€3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21; in front of Student Health at the Health Sciences Center from 10 a.m.�€3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 22-23; the Student Recreation Center from 3 �€6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, and the Mountainlair Commons from 10 a.m. �€3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25.


Students will be able to take a look through fatal vision goggles and participate in games that teach about the risks of drinking as well.


“Our goal is make students more aware of how drinking can adversely affect their lives,”Pforr said,”and to suggest some healthy alternatives.”


WVU s popular weekend program, WVUp All Night, and the new StudentRecreationCenter are just two such activities.
