The West Virginia University College of Creative Arts presented awards to outstanding faculty in the Divisions of Art, Music and Theatre and Dance, along with its staff member of the year, during a ceremony at EricksonAlumniCenter Sept. 26.
Dean Bernie Schultz, who presented the awards, noted that WVU Creative Arts faculty have performed in at least 15 states outside West Virginia and in at least 10 other countries during the past year. He said they also performed hundreds of service activities in West Virginia and surrounding states, represented WVU in a variety of scholarly publications and hold numerous grants and fellowships.
“Our faculty are touching the world and I applaud you and thank you for that,”Schultz said.
Award winners included Art Professor Victoria Fergus, who was named Art Educator of the Year for 2002 by the National Art Education Association, as well as receiving the organizations 2002 Student Sponsor Award.
Other faculty winners in the Division of Art were: Cliff Harvey and Janet Snyder, outstanding teaching; Paul Krainak, outstanding research and creative activity; and Bob Anderson and Victoria Fergus, outstanding service.
Division of Music faculty winners were: Mary Ferer and Laura Kobayashi, outstanding teaching; Paschal Younge and Christopher Wilkinson, outstanding research and creative activity; and Cynthia Anderson and John Hendricks, outstanding service.
In the Division of Theatre and Dance, faculty winners were: Margaret McKowen, outstanding teaching; Jerry McGonigle, outstanding research and creative activity; and Jim Brown, outstanding service.
The Outstanding Staff Member of the Year for 2002 is Scott Morrison, an accountant in the College of Creative Arts Executive Business Office.
