J. Scott Mizes, Ph.D., ABPP , will discuss the  Diagnosis and Treatment of Eating Disorders: A Cognitive Behavioral Perspective from 1-2:30 p.m. Friday Oct. 4, in Room 511 Allen Hall.


Anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder have become common problems in an American society that emphasizes thinness, but continues to battle obesity, according to the National Eating Disorders Association.


Conservative estimates indicate that after puberty, 5-10 million girls and women and 1 million boys and men struggle with eating disorders.


Dr. Mizes, an associate professor of behavioral medicine and psychiatry, is also director of the Eating, Body Image and Weight Disorders Program at WVU .


He received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Arkansas and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in behavior therapy and behavioral medicine at CaseWestern ReserveUniversity in Cleveland
