Two outstanding Mountaineer Parents clubs �€one from nearby Preston County and the other from Lehigh Valley, Pa. �€will be recognized at halftime of Saturdays (Sept. 28) WVU -East Carolina match-up as part of annual Fall Family Weekend activities at West Virginia University.

“This year, the organization started a new tradition of recognizing an outstanding in-state and out-of state Mountaineer Parents clubs that best exemplifies what a club should be about,”said Sabrina Cave, director.”While all of our clubs are excellent, these two organizations have been exceptional in their level of activity in support of students.”

Criteria evaluated in the selection process included participation in ParentsClubUniversity, Summer Send-Offs, regular club meetings, club newsletter development and student support projects.

Lehigh Valley Club officer Audrey Faust along with Bill and Kathy Watson, co-chairs from Preston County, will accept awards from WVU President David C. Hardesty Jr.; his wife, Susan, national chairperson of the MPC ; and Sabrina Cave, MPC director.

The Mountaineer Parents Club was started by the Hardestys in 1995 to connect families to their WVU students and the college experience. It now boasts its largest enrollment of more than 11,000 families involved in 62 clubs across the U.S.

The game and halftime event are only part of WVU s Fall Family Weekend activities. Also on tap:

  • Ring Day Ceremony/Reception, 1-2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 29, EricksonAlumniCenters Durrett Hall. During the ceremony, President and Mrs. Hardesty will present class rings to students.

Other events include a golf scramble, guided tours, class visits and theater presentations.

Additional WVUp All Night activities in the Mountainlair take place from 7 p.m.-2 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
