After extensive discussion in morning committee, West VirginiaUniversitys Board of Governors voted Friday (Sept. 6) to defer action on the Universitys policy regarding freedom of expression.

In light of the importance and complexity of the issue to the academic mission of the University, members indicated they wanted to take more time to review the policy before it reappears on the agenda.

The board also heard a report from President David C. Hardesty Jr. outlining the Universitys progress over the past year, including setting records in three areas �€enrollment, research funding and private giving �€and voted to adopt the presidents 10 goals for the strategic direction of the University.

In other news, the board approved:

  • general BOG operating procedures

  • a schedule of recurring BOG agenda subjects

  • policies passed on from HEPC

  • receipt of the undergraduate fee waiver report

  • the purchase of property for WVU Parkersburg for expansion of the JacksonCountyCenter

The board will meet again on campus Oct. 4-5.
