West VirginiaUniversitys Department of Public Safety is seeking information from persons who may have witnessed an incident Saturday evening (Aug. 31) at Mountaineer Field during the WVU -Tennessee Chattanooga game.


Officials say that an 11-year-old boy, sitting in section 108 with his parents, was struck by a golf ball that came from overhead around 6:55 p.m. The ball struck the concrete in front of the east side seats and bounced into the boys face, causing a cut to the upper lip that required medical attention.


A witness said the object came from the upper stands, but did not see it thrown.


Anyone who witnessed the throwing of this object or anyone with specific knowledge about the person who threw it is asked to contact Lt. Randy Friend at 304-293-3136.


Friend said this was an unfortunate, but isolated incident, and University officials are anxious to resolve itbut need the publics help.
