A semesters worth of activities at the West Virginia University Student Recreation Center gets under way with a one-year anniversary”Welcome Back Bash”from 5 p.m.-midnight Monday, Aug. 26.


Events ranging from a climbing competition at the climbing wall to a kickboxing class are designed to help students ease back into the school atmosphere while promoting all the great features of the center, said Sherri Restauri, program manager. The event is open to students, faculty and staff.


“The bash celebrates the first year of service of the RecCenter and welcoming back the students to school,”Restauri added.


Besides the climbing contest and kickboxing class, there will be body sculpting and scuba diving classes, chair massages, body fat analysis and cholesterol screening. Prize giveaways will include t-shirts, gift certificates, free semester aerobics pass, free personal training sessions, free climbing class, and a free one-hour massage. Refreshments will also be provided.


The”Welcome Back Bash”kicks off fall semester events at the RecreationCenter. Other activities include the Campus Cup Challenge in September and November, an intercollegiate bouldering competition Nov. 16 and various intramural sports throughout the semester.


The schedule of events for the”Welcome Back Bash”is as follows:

  • 5-8 p.m. �€Free chair massage (10-minute sessions), free zone, main hallway

  • 5:30 p.m. �€Free kickboxing class (60 minutes) MP�€B Lower Level

  • 6 p.m. �€Punch, cookies and cake, free zone, main hallway

  • 6-9 p.m. �€Discover Scuba with Interstate Aquatics, lap pool

  • 6:30 p.m. �€ WVU Climbing Competition, climbing wall

  • 6:50 p.m. �€Free body sculpting class (40 minutes) MP�€B Lower Level

  • 9 p.m. �€Flick-n-Float (movie to be announced), leisure pool
