Some 700 freshmen and transfer students will be introduced to college life next week when West Virginia University hosts fall orientation sessions Tuesday, Aug. 13-Thursday, Aug. 15.

Each one-day session will give students a crash course on the important facts, support and information essential to college life at WVU , just in time for the fall semester that begins Monday, Aug. 19.

Transfer students will attend orientation on the sessions first day while freshmen will meet on the second and third days.

In addition to learning more about the University, both freshmen and transfer students can also move into their assigned residence hall room .

New Student Orientation Coordinator Regan Fritsch-Bruni encourages all freshmen and transfers to attend fall orientation, although she said it is not mandatory.

“Students who attend orientation sessions will have a good understanding of the campus and know where to find the support they need to succeed,”Fritsch-Bruni said.”Orientation helps students start college on the right foot.”

Students also will be able to register for classes, take placement exams, get their picture ID cards and tour the campus.

A highlight of the tour will include a glimpse of WVU ’s fabulous Student Recreation Center. The center, which opened in the summer of 2001, features multiple gymnasiums and courts, an elevated running and walking track, weight and fitness equipment, two pools and an indoor climbing wall.

Other planned activities include meetings with academic advisors and Resident Faculty Leaders (RFL’s) WVU s outstanding faculty couples who live adjacent to the Evansdale Residence Halls to offer advice and counseling.

Students will also hear about the Mountaineer Parents Club from WVU First Lady Susan Hardesty, who leads the organization for families of WVU students.

Participants also will be introduced to the Career Services Center and the Career Success Academy, learn about WVU ’s more than 250 clubs and organizations, computer labs and facilities and generally get more familiar with the University and what it has to offer.

The New Student Convocation, a formal welcome for all freshmen, will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, in the WVU Coliseum.

The event will feature new WVU mens head basketball coach John Beilein and WVU President David C. Hardesty, who will join other University and community officials in welcoming more than 3,800 incoming freshmen to Morgantown.
