The University Chapter of the West Virginia University Alumni Association is joining forces with the Monongalia County Mountaineer Parents Club to host a”Meet the VIPs”Sunday, Aug. 11, from 6-8 p.m. in the Stadium Suites at Mountaineer Field.
Parents, students, alumni and friends are invited to mingle with representatives from athletics, student affairs, the Alumni Association and the Mountaineer Parents Club. Special guests will include Mountaineer mascot Trey Hinrichs and Veronica Hammersmith, longtime WVU volleyball head coach.
Prizes to be raffled include a $200 textbook gift certificate, a pair of tickets to the Fall Family Weekend football game and logo hats, t-shirts and other items.
“This is a great opportunity for Mountaineer Parents Club members and WVU students to learn more about the local University Chapter of the WVU Alumni Association,”said Sabrina Cave, director of the WVU Mountaineer Parents Club and vice president of the University Chapter.”Since we are in the Stadium Suites, it is also a great way to get asneak peekat the new turf on Mountaineer Field.”
Cave noted that this is the first time the two local chapters have collaborated in staging an event.
“This is definitely a trend. All over, WVU alumni are joining with parents to work together, supporting our alma mater and its students,”she said.
Hors doeuvres and beverages will be served. Admission is $5 per person.
The Mountaineer Parents Club was created in 1995 as one of five student life initiatives of WVU President David C. Hardesty Jr. The organization, which has over 10,500 members, was established to foster success by connecting parents and family members with the West Virginia University student experience. Membership is free and open to parents and family members of current, former and future WVU students.
The WVU Alumni Association, chartered in 1873, represents more than 145,000 university graduates residing in every county in West Virginia, every state in the union and approximately 60 foreign nations. With nearly 100 registered chapters and constituent groups, the associations 26,000 dues-paying members support Homecoming Weekend, the WVU Academy of Distinguished Alumni and dozens of other social and philanthropic programs.
