Three incoming West Virginia University freshmen will save a bundle when it comes to room and board this academic year thanks to a scholarship program offered through WVU Housing, Residential Education and Dining Services.

Jennifer Marie Audia. a freshmen political science major from Salem, has been named WVU s 2002-2003 Lyon Scholaran award for full room and board in Lyon Tower, valued at $5,572.

Audia, a graduate of Liberty High School, was a member of the schools Student Council and Civil Rights Team. She also has been active in community service with agencies such as the Senior Citizens Center and Teens in Action.

The Harriet E. Lyon Scholarship was established in 1989 in honor of WVU s first female graduate. The annual recipient of this award must be a female in her freshman year and reside in Evansdale Campuses’Lyon Tower. Two freshmen have also been awarded the Universitys Mulitcultural Scholarship, which provides half of the yearly cost of a double room and full meal plan, valued at $2,786.

This years recipients are Justin D. Roach of Dunbar and Summer M. Williams of Martinsburg.

Roach is a graduate of South Charleston High School and has been active in National Honor Society, Student Council, football, baseball and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He plans to study pre-law at WVU .

Williams, a freshmen psychology major, is a graduate of Hedgesville High School where she served as student body president and captain of the schools soccer team.

The Multicultural Scholarship was established in the 1980s and is given to students to encourage diversity in residential living. It is based on leadership potential, community service and academic achievement.
