The 60th annual WVU Alumni Association Golf Tournament will be held Friday, July 26, at Lakeview Golf Resort. The outing is among the Associations most popular traditions, officials say, with more than 130 players signing up annually.
The tournament has also raised more than $110,000 for alumni programming over the past seven years.
“Some of our players have been coming back for years, while others are new graduates,”said Kevin Berry, assistant director of the WVU Alumni Association,”but we all share a love for our alma mater. Im looking forward to spending quality time with friends while perpetuating a grand WVU tradition.”
Berry said proceeds are used to enhance alumni programming through the associations Marmaduke Dent Society endowment. Dent, who became West Virginia Universitys first graduate in 1870, was a teacher, attorney and president of the state Supreme Court. He also served several terms as president of the WVU Alumni Association.
Participants will receive a buffet lunch and dinner as well as a souvenir logo sweater. Prizes will be awarded at dinner to first-, second- and third-place net and gross scorers. In addition, the first player to score a hole-in-one on a designated par-three hole will win $10,000. As an extra thrill for technology buffs, all carts will be equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS) technology.
Once again, BB&T is showing its commitment to this charitable event by serving as the corporate sponsor.
“We are pleased to maintain a strong relationship with such an outstanding corporate citizen,”Berry said.”We are helping a lot of students throughout the state thanks to this show of support,”he continued.
Golfers must register by July 20; the field is limited to the first 132 registrants. Those who do not wish to golf may reserve a place to join their friends at the awards dinner.
