The West Virginia University Student Recreation Center will observe its one-year anniversary from noon-2 p.m. Wednesday, July 17. The celebration will include cake and punch for those who attend and will be served in front of the main control desk at the Center.

“Were really excited to celebrate the anniversary of the Student Recreation Center,”said Dave Taylor, director of the facility.”Everyone is welcome to join in on the festivity and celebrate the occasion.”

The Student Recreation Center has been a popular addition to the WVU campus since opening July 17, 2001. More than 580,000 students, faculty, staff, and their family members and guests have taken advantage of the facility and all it has to offer.

The $34 million, 170,000-square-foot building features a climbing wall; four-court and three-court gyms; a 17,000-square-foot weight/fitness area; an aquatics area; an elevated jogging/walking track; a wellness center; and multipurpose rooms.

Recreation Center event coordinators are planning a larger celebration Monday, Aug. 26, to coincide with studentsreturn to campus for the fall semester. More details will be available in the coming weeks.
