Researchers at West Virginia Universitys Organic Research Farm will host a field day from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at the Route 705 farm, just off the Mileground.

The farm is home to an ongoing project where researchers compare organic farming systems to determine the effects on crop yields, soil quality and pest populations. The farms mission is to conduct scientifically sound research to provide best-practice recommendations for West Virginias organic farmers and home gardeners. The research is conducted by a multi-disciplinary team of scholars from WVU s Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences.

Events at the field day will include a wagon tour of the farm and demonstrations of organic methods. A supper featuring organically grown vegetables will be served at 6 p.m.

Gates open at 3 p.m. with wagon tours starting at 3:30 p.m. Pre-registration is requested and can be made by calling 304-293-4727 or e-mailing project research assistant Tom Batchelor at tbatchel@wvu.edu .
