Todd M. Beckwith (Class of70) of Martinsburg is joining the 18-member Board of Directors of the West Virginia University Alumni Association. He was elected to a five-year term representing West Virginia District Four at the associations recent annual meeting. Beckwith succeeds Richard A. Pill (Class of73), also of Martinsburg.

Beckwith has been a strong force behind the recent growth of the Eastern Panhandle chapter of the WVU Alumni Association, holding a number of key leadership positions over the course of many years. He has also led the local branch of the Mountaineer Fan Club.

“My time at WVU opened so many doors for me,”he commented.”It is an honor to be able to give something back to this great university.”

Stephen Douglas, chief executive officer of the association, welcomes the new board member with enthusiasm.

“Our organization is thriving thanks to community-minded alumni such as Todd. We are thrilled that an individual of his caliber will be joining us in serving the greater university community,”Douglas said.

A senior vice president of the Blue Ridge Region for City National Bank, Beckwith received a bachelors degree in mathematics from WVU . He is a former president and longtime member of the Berkeley County Board of Education.

Beckwith and his wife, Barbara, have two children, Ellen and Andrew. Barbara Beckwith received her degree from WVU in 1972; Andrew will be entering WVU as a freshman this fall.

Other board newcomers include Judge James Rowe72, of Lewisburg, and Michael Garrison91,96 JD, of Charleston, WV.

The WVU Alumni Association, chartered in 1873, represents over 140,000 university graduates residing in every county in West Virginia, every state in the union and approximately 60 foreign nations. With nearly 100 registered chapters and constituent groups, the associations 26,000 dues-paying members support Homecoming Weekend, the WVU Academy of Distinguished Alumni and dozens of other social and philanthropic programs.
