Media are encouraged to cover West Virginia Universitys 133rd Commencement Sunday, May 19, at 1:30 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum, or any of the individual college/school convocation/graduation events scheduled throughout the weekend. Some highlights:

  • Over 10,000 friends and relatives are expected at Sundays main ceremony.
  • Nearly 3,000 students will receive degrees.
  • WVU alumnus Raymond J. Lane, former president and chief operating officer of Oracle Corporation, is the 2002 Commencement speaker.
  • Sundays 1:30 p.m. ceremony is expected to last about 2hours; doors to Coliseum open at noon.
  • The WVU Alumni Association will host a post commencement open house and reception from 4-6 p.m. at Erickson Alumni Center.

Reporters/photographers covering the main ceremony should park in the Coliseum main lot and display their”Press Visitor”permit. Seating for print media will be available in press row, just off the main concourse as you enter the blue gate. Videographers and still photographers may roam the main floor with proper identification/credentials.

A mult box will be set up for broadcast media at the far back corner of the Coliseum floor.
