The West Virginia University Department of Public Safety is sponsoring two events Monday, May 13, to honor law enforcement officers who risk their lives every day protecting the public and to remember those who have died in the line of duty.

A breakfast and program for local police officers will begin at 8 a.m. in the Mountainlair Gold Ballroom. Following the breakfast, representatives of local law enforcement agencies and public officials will walk to the Morgantown Public Safety Building on Spruce Street to place a wreath at the bronze sculpture at the building entrance. The sculpture is that of a police officer helping a child.

“These ceremonies are to honor the American men and women in law enforcement who put their lives in peril each day making their communities safe, as well as the 230 officers who made the ultimate sacrifice last year,”Roberts said.
