Several West Virginia University alumni who have climbed the ladder of success in their professions will return to campus Commencement Weekend May 18-19to give remarks during individual college and school ceremonies.

Speakers include:

  • College of Business and Economics: Art King, a 1968 graduate of WVU with a double major in finance and accounting.
  • College of Creative Arts: Bob Hamrick, a trombonist with the Pittsburgh Symphony who earned a bachelors degree in 1968 and a masters degree in 1970.
  • Eberly College of Arts and Sciences: Thomas A. Lyson, professor of rural sociology at Cornell University, who earned his bachelors degree in 1970 and masters degree in 1976, both in sociology.
  • Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences: Cameron Hackney, current dean of the College
  • College of Engineering and Mineral Resources: Eugene Cilento, current dean of the College
  • College of Human Resources and Education: William Deaton, current dean of the College and Van Dempsey, director of the Benedum Collaborative
  • College of Law: Jack Bowman, Law School professor of the year
  • School of Dentistry: Dr. Robert M. DAlessandri, vice president for Health Sciences/Dean of the School of Medicine
  • School of Journalism: Ed Rabel, veteran journalist and senior vice-president of the McGinn Group
  • School of Medicine: Dr. George J. Caranasos, professor of medicine in the Division of Internal Medicine and Section on Aging at the University of Florida, Gainsville
  • School of Nursing: Jane E. Martin, current dean of the School
  • School of Physical Education: Regina Blosnich, recipient of the schools NASPE Outstanding Major of the Year award. She is receiving her bachelors degree this year in physical education teacher education and certification in health education.
    p. The commencement speaker at WVU s main graduation ceremony Sunday, May 19, at 1:30 p.m. in the Coliseum will be alumnus Ray Lane, a partner in the venture capital firm of Kleiner Perkins Caufield&Byers and former president and COO of Oracle Corp.

Commencement speakers at WVU s regional campuses include U.S. Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va), who will address WVU Institute of Technology graduates Saturday, May 11, at 10 a.m., state Education and Arts Secretary Kay Huffman Goodwin, who will speak at Potomac State College Saturday, May 11, at 11 a.m., and Parkersburg Mayor

Jimmy Columbo, who will deliver the commencement address Saturday, May 18, at 2 p.m. at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.
