From the moment West Virginia University graduates receive their diplomas, they instantly become alumni. Now, a new offering will celebrate this important transformation.

Called the Alumni and Friends Post Commencement Open House and Reception, this special gathering will be held from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at Erickson Alumni Center immediately following commencement.

“The WVU Alumni Association helps members form important, life-long connections to the University, fellow friends and faculty,”said Kevin Berry, assistant director.”This open house will provide our new graduates the chance to learn more about us and the many fun events and important opportunities available through the WVU Alumni Association.”

Berry said the reception will be held in true open house format.

“We will provide light refreshments and the opportunity for individuals to congregate after commencement and potentially learn about the Alumni Association and its related activities, including Alumni Association chapters nationwide,”Berry said.

Discounted lifetime memberships also will be available at the event since a lot of parents may like to purchase lifetime memberships as special graduation gifts, he added.

“We also hope a lot of current association members will attend and talk with new graduates about the benefits of joining the association,”Berry said.
