Les Carpenter has been named interim director of financial aid at West Virginia University, replacing Brenda Thompson who was recently named assistant vice president for Student Affairs and Enrollment Services.

Carpenter began working at WVU in 1987 in the controllers office, and moved to manager of financial aid information systems in 1994. He served as assistant director and associate director prior to being appointed to the interim post.

In addition to his work at WVU , Carpenter is active in the West Virginia Association of Financial Aid Administrators, the Midwest Association of Financial Aid Administrators and various community organizations.

“I am very confident in Les’ability to provide leadership for the Financial Aid Office,”Thompson said.”He is a team player who truly cares about those he serves.”

“I am very excited for the opportunity to serve WVU as the interim director of financial aid,”Carpenter said.”We are very fortunate to have a wonderful, hard working staff on board. I look forward to working with them to provide WVU students with the financial support that they need in order to gain a college education.”

Carpenter has a B.S. in accounting with a minor in computer science from Fairmont State College. He earned an MBA in 1983 from WVU and is currently completing a doctorate in higher education administration from the University.
